معرفی
Arthur H. Heuer serves as Kyocera Professor of Materials and University Professor at Case Western Reserve University, with additional affiliations as External Member of Germany's Max Planck Society and Visiting Professor at Imperial College London. Since joining CWRU's faculty in 1967, he has established himself as a global leader in materials science through over 550 publications and transformative industry collaborations.
His research centers on advanced ceramics (engineering, biological, and structural), solid oxide fuel cells, corrosion mechanisms, and alloy hardening processes. Pioneering electron microscopy applications for ceramic analysis, his work bridges fundamental science with industrial applications—from museum artifact authentication to energy materials development.
Professor Heuer's accolades include election to the National Academy of Engineering (1990), the ASM Gold Medal (1997), and the American Ceramics Society's W. David Kingery Award (2008), alongside CWRU's Humel Hovorka Prize (2008). He maintains fellowships in four major scientific societies reflecting interdisciplinary impact.
Mentoring over 160 graduate students and postdocs, Heuer integrates trainees into his $10M+ Swagelok-funded research program. He directs the Swagelok Center for Surface Analysis and Materials (SCSAM), providing state-of-the-art characterization resources that attract international collaborators and support cutting-edge projects in ceramics and corrosion science.
