Arthur C.R. Gleason is a Research Professor in the Department of Physics at the University of Miami's College of Arts and Sciences. He is affiliated with the Atmospheric and Oceanic Optics Group, Department of Marine Geosciences, and CSTARS (Center for Southeastern Tropical Advanced Remote Sensing).
- Primary research focuses on underwater imaging technology, ocean color remote sensing calibration, and coral reef conservation
- Key projects include MOBY buoy maintenance, bidirectional reflectance (BRDF) modeling, and large-area image mosaics
His work combines ocean optics, spectral analysis, and 3D modeling to advance coral reef monitoring. Articles demonstrate expertise in underwater image classification, polarized radiance measurement, and multi-sensor integration. Publications systematically validate Case I/II water models and polarization effects in marine environments.
Scientific recognition:
- 2020 Pew Marine Conservation Fellowship
- 2007 Student Poster Award (MTS/IEEE Oceans Conference)
Active in educational initiatives through:
- Co-development of Large Area Image data acquisition and processing online course
- Biweekly LAI Office Hours with UCSD/NOAA partners
