Arthur B. Weglein

Arthur B. Weglein holds the Hugh Roy and Lillie Cranz Cullen Distinguished University Chair in Physics at the University of Houston, where he is a Professor in the Department of Physics and the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences. He serves as Director of the Mission-Oriented Seismic Research Program (M-OSRP), a research consortium supported by major oil and service companies worldwide.

Weglein's research focuses on seismic imaging, inverse theory, and exploration seismology. His work has revolutionized approaches to multiple removal, depth imaging, and seismic data processing. He has developed direct methods that eliminate the need for subsurface information in processing, challenging conventional indirect approaches in the field.

His publications reveal a consistent focus on advancing seismic processing through the inverse scattering series methodology, with particular emphasis on multiple elimination, deghosting techniques, and direct inversion methods. His work shows a progression from theoretical foundations to practical field applications across both marine and land environments.
