Art Smith is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Communication at Marietta College since 1993. He teaches courses in Photojournalism, Photography, Web Design, and Digital Communication. As an industry co-advisor for the American Advertising Federation (AAF), he actively engages students in professional development through conferences and competitions.
Outside academia, Smith serves as Webmaster for The Parkersburg News and Sentinel and The Marietta Times, managing websites for Ogden Newspapers. He has managed the News and Sentinel Half Marathon as Logistical Director since 2002, earning recognition for event organization. His career spans over three decades in the newspaper industry, including roles as news editor, photographer, and presentation editor.
Smith’s expertise and contributions have been honored with over 50 Associated Press awards, West Virginia Press Association accolades, and the Director's Award for dedication to the Half Marathon. His professional development includes workshops on website marketing and attendance at AAF and American Press Institute conferences.
Personal interests include kayaking, photography, and travel. He is married to Lori Smith, a Marietta College instructor, and they have two adult daughters.
