Arshad Kudrolli is a Professor of Physics at Clark University, specializing in experimental research on non-equilibrium systems. His work focuses on granular materials, biological physics, fluid dynamics, and soft matter, with a particular interest in self-organization and pattern formation. Kudrolli holds a B.Tech. from IIT Bombay and a Ph.D. from Northeastern University, and has been at Clark since 1997. His research is funded by the National Science Foundation and the Department of Energy. Key achievements include a Sloan Research Fellowship, a CAREER Award, and Fellow status in the American Physical Society (2010).
His research interests span experimental and theoretical studies of complex systems, including erosion dynamics, magnetoelastic robotics, and crumpling mechanics. Recent projects involve studying dissolution-driven propulsion, granular intruder dynamics, and the mechanics of twisted elastic filaments. Kudrolli leads the Complex Matter and Nonlinear Physics Laboratory at Clark, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches combining experiments, simulations, and data science.
Education: B.Tech. (Engineering Physics), Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (1990); Ph.D. (Physics), Northeastern University (1995). Awards include the Research Innovation Award from Research Corporation and grants from NSF and DOE for projects on granular matter dynamics and fluid-sediment interactions.
Grants and advising highlight his contributions to understanding granular transport, erosion channelization, and active matter systems. His lab explores topics like ciliary flow synchronization, bacterial colony dynamics, and machine learning applications in landscape evolution studies.
