Dr. Arsalan Mirjafari is the Richard S. Shineman Professor of Chemistry at SUNY Oswego. His research focuses on developing functional organic-ion materials through the integration of ionic liquid chemistry, bioinspired design, and organic synthesis to address challenges in health and sustainability. Key projects include DNA preservation, CO₂ capture using waste-derived ionic liquids, and lipid-like ionic liquids for gene delivery.
He leads the Mirjafari Lab, emphasizing diversity and inclusion. The lab has published extensively in ACS Applied Bio Materials, ACS Sustainable Chemistry & Engineering, and other journals. Recent work includes a U.S. patent for long-term DNA storage and studies on antivitamin ionic liquids and thermally robust organophosphorus materials.
Publications highlight innovation in click chemistry synthesis methods, crystal engineering, and application-driven material design. Current efforts explore ionic liquids for biomedical uses and environmental sustainability, with funding from grants including the CAS RUI program.
