Arnd Pralle is a Professor at the Department of Physics, University of Buffalo, within the College of Arts and Sciences. His work focuses on nanotechnology applications in cellular biophysics and neuronal signaling.
- Education: MS in Physics (1994), PhD in Physics (1999), Postdoctoral Research at Max-Planck Institute and UC Berkeley (2001-2005).
Research interests span Cellular Biophysics, Membrane Structure and Signaling, Magnetogenetics, and Nanoscale Heat Transport, combining ultra-resolution microscopy (bimFCS, TIRF) with magnetic nanoparticle technologies. His group developed magnetothermal stimulation to remotely control neuronal circuits in awake animals.
Scientific awards include the Human Frontier Science Program Award (2012), NIH EUREKA Award (2011), and Schloessmann Award (2001).
His lab trains future leaders in biophysics, including PhD recipients like Rahul Munshi (2018) and Yun-Hsiang Park (2013). Funding includes NIH BRAIN Initiative (R01MH111872), NIH R21 grants, and HFSP RGP0052.
Labs located in Fronczak Hall (124 & 150) house cutting-edge facilities for confocal microscopy, pulsed-light imaging, and nanoparticle engineering.
