Dr. Armen Gulian is a Professor and Director of the Advanced Physics Laboratory at Chapman University's Schmid College of Science & Technology. He holds a Master of Science from Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology and has conducted groundbreaking research in superconductivity, mesoscopic systems, and quantum electronics.
- Current affiliation: Chapman University (Schmid College of Science & Technology, Physics Department)
- Prior roles: Founder of the Laboratory of High-Temperature Superconductivity (Armenia), researcher at US Naval Research Laboratory
- Email: gulian@chapman.edu
Research Interests: Dr. Gulian's work focuses on non-equilibrium phenomena in superconductors/superfluids, phase-slip centers, vortex dynamics, and cryogenic sensors. Recent studies include:
- High-frequency superconducting diodes (Nb3Sn microbridges)
- Quadristor devices for reversible superconducting switching
- Phase-slip centers as solid-state cooling engines via thermal diode effects
- Gravitational wave sensors using superconducting transducers
- Room-temperature superconductivity exploration in graphene-based systems
Publication Trends: His 2020-2023 articles span superconductivity (60%), quantum electronics (20%), and condensed matter physics (20%), with key subfields including phase-slip dynamics, vortex control, and cryogenic device design. Funding from Office of Naval Research (grants N00014-19-1-2265 and N00014-21-1-2879) supports his laboratory's work.
