Armand Garnet Ruffo is a Professor in the Core Creative Writing Faculty at Queen’s University, located in the Department of Creative Writing within the Faculty of Arts and Science. He holds a Master of Arts in Creative Writing from the University of Windsor. His work bridges creative and scholarly domains, focusing on Indigenous literatures, transnationalism, and carceral writing. Ruffo is renowned for his poetry collections like Treaty# (2019) and Norval Morrisseau: Man Changing Into Thunderbird (2014), both finalists for the Governor General’s Literary Award. He co-edited pivotal works such as The Oxford Anthology of Indigenous Literature and An Anthology of Indigenous Literary Criticism in Canada.
His creative output includes the feature film A Windigo Tale (winner of multiple awards) and the libretto Sounding Thunder: The Song of Francis Pegahmagabow (2018). Ruffo’s research explores intersections of Indigenous identity, genre innovation, and cultural representation. He has been honored with prestigious awards including the Latner Writers’ Trust Poetry Prize (2020) and the Queen’s Teaching Award (2020).
