Arlene G Asuncion is a Professor in the Psychology Department at San José State University's College of Social Sciences. She earned her Ph.D. in Social Psychology from the University of California, Santa Barbara (1993) and joined SJSU in 1995 after faculty roles at the University of Texas at Arlington.
- Education: Doctor of Philosophy (Social/Personality Psychology, Highest Honors) from UC Santa Barbara
Her research examines stereotypes, intergroup attitudes, and how affective states influence social cognition. She focuses on self-perception among minority groups and mood effects on persuasive message processing. Her publication record includes work on outcome-biased dispositional inferences (2001).
As a faculty member, she teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in Social Psychology and the Psychology of Prejudice. She has held administrative roles including Associate Chair of the department and served as advisor for undergraduate psychology majors.
