Arkaitz Zubiaga

Dr. Arkaitz Zubiaga is a Senior Lecturer and Director of Graduate Studies (Research) at Queen Mary University of London, where he co-leads the Social Data Science Lab and contributes to the Centre for Human-Centred Computing leadership team.

His research focuses on the intersection of Computational Social Science and Natural Language Processing, advancing techniques to address:

• Hate speech and cyberbullying detection
• Misinformation and disinformation analysis
• Bias mitigation in AI systems
• Responsible use of large language models
• Online harm prevention

Recent publications highlight innovations in zero-shot learning and few-shot learning for social media analysis, with work appearing in venues like COLING, ICWSM, and ACL. Notably, his survey paper on cyberbullying detection received the 2024 OSNEM Best Survey Award.

As an active mentor, he advises PhD students including Peiling Yi (recent graduate) and Alaa Bazaid, while leading the HYBRIDS MSCA Doctoral Network as principal investigator. His teaching includes modules on AI Programming and NLP, emphasizing practical Python-based data science skills.
