Ark Verma

Ark Verma is an Associate Professor in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. His expertise lies at the intersection of cognitive psychology, psycholinguistics, and philosophy of mind, with a particular focus on how cognitive functions are lateralized in the human brain and how bilingualism influences executive control.

Dr. Verma’s research spans cognitive science, lateralization of cognitive functions, psycholinguistics, visual word recognition in Hindi and other Indian languages, bilingualism & executive control, and foundational questions in philosophy of mind and philosophy of language. His work combines rigorous experimental paradigms—such as the visual half-field technique—with theoretical inquiries into the nature of consciousness and language.
