Aristides N. Hatzis is Professor of Philosophy of Law & Institutional Theory at the Department of History & Philosophy of Science of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. In parallel he serves as Director of Research at the Center for Liberal Studies (CELSI) and is a Fellow of the Institute for Research in Economics and Fiscal Issues. He is a member of the Board of the Society of European Contract Law, the European Network for Better Regulation, and the Scientific Councils of the Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy (ELIAMEP) and the Institute for Justice and Development (EPLO).
He is a lawyer and holds a Doctor of Law & Economics from the University of Chicago.
Research interests revolve around the intersection of law, economics and philosophy, including:
- Philosophy of law and constitutional theory
- Institutional analysis and design
- Law & Economics and regulatory impact assessment
- Liberal thought and the intellectual history of freedom
- Rational choice theory and decision-making
His recent work explores the ideological foundations of liberalism, the economic analysis of legal institutions, and the philosophical underpinnings of regulation.
He is actively engaged in public discourse through numerous Greek and international media outlets and maintains an extensive online presence across academic and social platforms.
