Aris Alissandrakis

Aris Alissandrakis is a Senior Lecturer at the Division of Interaction Design and Software Engineering at Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden (since October 2024). Previously, he held the same position at the Department of Computer Science and Media Technology at Linnaeus University. His academic background includes a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Hertfordshire, UK (2003), and an M.Eng. in Cybernetics from the University of Reading, UK (1999). Alissandrakis has held research positions at institutions such as the University of Hertfordshire, Tokyo Institute of Technology, and ATR Intelligent Robotics and Communication Laboratories in Japan.

His research focuses on Human-Computer Interaction, Virtual and Augmented Reality, Human-Robot Interaction, Quantified Self, Big Data, and Imitation Learning in Adaptive Systems. He leads the VRxAR Labs research group, exploring immersive technologies for data exploration and public engagement. Notable projects include Immersive Analytics for Urban Heat (funded by Norrköping) and Augmented Reality for Public Engagement (PEAR).

Alissandrakis has published extensively in venues like Virtual Reality, Frontiers in Virtual Reality, and IEEE conferences. His work has received awards, including the Best Overall Paper Award at ICCE2016 and recognition for visualizing quantified self data. He actively collaborates with institutions like SMHI, Norrköping Municipality, and Linköping University.
