Dr. Arijit Sen is an Associate Professor of History at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM), with an affiliation in Urban Studies. He specializes in public history, urban and architectural history, and community-engaged research. His work focuses on cultural landscapes of immigrant communities, environmental justice, and collaborative ethnography. Sen directs the Buildings-Landscapes-Cultures Field School, a public humanities initiative that documents Milwaukee’s neighborhoods through community collaboration. He co-leads the Milwaukee Environmental Justice Lab and the statewide Community Powered project under Wisconsin Humanities.

Research Interests: Urban history, architectural preservation, material culture, and diaspora studies. He emphasizes marginalized communities’ narratives often excluded from official histories. Recent projects include the “Climates of Inequality” exhibit on environmental justice and the “Growing Resistance” exhibit on Milwaukee’s Northside activism.
