Dr. Arif Sarwat is Professor and Director of the FPL-FIU Solar Research Center in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Florida International University. He leads the Energy, Power and Sustainability (EPS) Group and holds PhD (USF) and MS (UF) degrees in Electrical Engineering. His research spans smart grids, renewable integration, cybersecurity, electric vehicle systems, and microgrid resilience.
Recent projects include AI-based microgrid security, cyber-physical solutions for renewable integration, dynamic wireless EV charging, and infrastructure vulnerability assessment. He directs the Proactive Analytics Research (PANDORAS) Lab and GENIE Control Room for renewable microgrids. Awards include the NSF CAREER Award (2016), FIU Top Scholar (2015, 2019), and best paper awards at Resilience Week (2017) and Modern Power Systems (2016).
Dr. Sarwat developed FIU's grid-tied renewable research network including 1.4MW solar plant and leads projects funded by NSF, DOE, and industry partners. His 2025 publications focus on grid optimization, marine AI applications, wireless charging control, and cybersecurity frameworks.
