Arielle Elkrief is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Montreal and holds a dual appointment in the Department of Oncology at the Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CHUM). She serves as Co-Director of the CHUM Microbiome Centre and is a Research Member of the Montreal Cancer Institute (ICM). Her work bridges clinical oncology and translational research, focusing on the gut and tumor microbiome as biomarkers and therapeutic targets in cancer immunotherapy.
Elkrief leads microbiome-centered clinical trials, including fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT), prebiotics, and dietary interventions to enhance immunotherapy efficacy. She has contributed pivotal research on the negative impact of antibiotics on immunotherapy outcomes and developed strategies to mitigate immune-related adverse events like colitis through FMT. Her lab integrates computational biology, microbiology, and oncology to advance precision medicine.
Elkrief has published over 75 peer-reviewed articles in journals such as Nature Medicine, Journal of Clinical Oncology, and Clinical Cancer Research. She has received prestigious awards including the American Society of Clinical Oncology Young Investigator Award and the SITC-MRA Women in Melanoma Fellowship.
Her research also explores genomic and immune correlates of therapy response in lung and melanoma cancers. She collaborates broadly, including with the Terry Fox Research Institute and the Canadian Cancer Centres Network, to translate microbiome insights into clinical practice.
