معرفی
Arianna Long is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Astronomy at the University of Washington, within the College of Arts & Sciences. Her research focuses on the formation and evolution of massive galaxies in the high-redshift Universe, combining JWST and ALMA observational data with numerical modeling. She explores how baryonic components (stars, gas, dust) evolve to shape cosmic structures.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Physics, University of California, Irvine (2022)
- M.Sc. in Physics, California State University, Los Angeles (2017)
- B.Sc. in Applied Mathematics, Towson University (2014)
Research Interests: High-redshift galaxies, infrared astronomy, interstellar/intergalactic/circumgalactic medium dynamics, and the evolution of baryonic components in massive galaxies. Her work bridges early dusty star-forming galaxies with their quiescent descendants.
Awards & Recognition:
- Recipient of the 2022 National Academies of Science Excellence in Science Communication Award
- Featured in the 2022 Best American Science and Nature Writing
Mentorship & Outreach: As Chief Programming Officer of #VanguardSTEM, she leads radical mentoring initiatives for gender minorities of color in STEM. She also engages in science communication and public outreach.
Advising: Currently not accepting new graduate students. Details of past advisees are not listed here.
Labs/Teams: Leads The Group, dedicated to studying massive galaxies' formation and evolution through interdisciplinary approaches.
