Ariane KÖNIG is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Social Sciences at the University of Luxembourg, Faculty of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences. She leads transdisciplinary research on regenerative practices in complex social-ecological-technological systems and is actively involved in knowledge co-production, citizen science, and sustainability governance. She is a member of the faculty council and evaluates interdisciplinary research for the Institute of Advanced Studies.
Her research focuses on understanding how to organize transdisciplinary inquiry that accounts for complexity, uncertainty, and open futures in social-ecological systems. She employs participatory methods such as collaborative systems mapping, scenario planning, and co-design of sustainability indicators. Her work is informed by professional experience in multinational corporations, intergovernmental organizations (OECD, European Commission), and academic institutions including Harvard and Oxford.
König has published over 50 publications (h-index 26), edited two books, and acquired over 2.3 million Euros in research funding. She has given over 30 invited talks and served on international research evaluation committees. Her teaching includes the Certificate in Sustainability and Social Innovation and transdisciplinary research skills in the doctoral school.
