Ari Koeppel

Ari Koeppel is a Lecturer and Postdoctoral Researcher at Dartmouth College and a Visiting Young Fellow through the NASA NH Space Grant program. His work bridges planetary science, remote sensing, and thermodynamic modeling to study surface processes on Mars and Earth.

• Education: PhD in Astronomy and Planetary Science (Northern Arizona University, 2023), MSc in Geology (The City College of New York, 2018), BA in Engineering Physics (Dartmouth College, 2015).
• Research Focus: Land surface processes, Martian geology, thermal inertia analysis, dust dynamics, and climate-driven erosion studies.

His publications highlight interdisciplinary approaches combining machine learning, thermal remote sensing, and field experiments to decode planetary surface evolution. Key themes include the interplay between dust cover and thermal inertia, permafrost thaw dynamics, and glacial landform analogs for Mars.

Ari actively contributes to scientific outreach and inclusive fieldwork practices while leading wilderness excursions to connect students with natural exploration. His field qualifications include Wilderness Emergency Medical Technician, Swiftwater Rescue Technician, and FAA UAS Licensing.
