Are Skeie Hermansen is an Associate Professor in Sociology at the Department of Sociology and Human Geography, University of Oslo. He holds concurrent roles as a Researcher (20%) at the Swedish Institute for Social Research (SOFI), Stockholm University (2020–present), and has held prior positions including Postdoctoral Fellow (2015–2019) and Researcher (2019–2020) at the same department. His academic interests focus on social stratification, immigrant assimilation, and segregation in education, labor markets, and neighborhoods. He earned his PhD from the University of Oslo (2010–2015) and has held visiting fellowships at Princeton University (2013–2014).
His research employs quantitative methods using Norwegian administrative data to study ethnic inequalities and segregation dynamics. Notable awards include membership in the Young Academy of Norway (2020–2024) and the Pro Futura Scientia XIV Fellowship (declined). He collaborates on projects like Ethnic Segregation in Schools and Neighborhoods (SEGREGATION) and the Comparative Organizational Inequality Network (COIN).
