Ardeshir Faghri is a Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Delaware and holds the title of Senior Faculty Fellow at the Institute for Public Administration. Since 1990, he has contributed to academia through teaching, research, and administrative roles, including former directorship of the Delaware Center for Transportation Research (2000–2016). His expertise spans transportation systems engineering, geospatial technologies, soft computing, and applied probability theory.
Education: Ph.D. (Civil Engineering/Transportation, University of Virginia, 1987), Master’s (Civil Engineering, University of Virginia, 1985; University of Washington, 1983), and Bachelor’s (Civil Engineering, University of Washington, 1981).
Research focuses on sustainable infrastructure systems and transportation innovation, supported by over $30 million in grants from NSF, FHWA, FTA, and state DOTs. He has led international projects for the UNDP and organized conferences on uncertainty modeling and AI in transportation. His work has produced over 100 refereed journal articles, 12 book chapters, and a patented civil engineering innovation.
Awardees include recognition from USDOT, NASA, ITE, and UD’s teaching excellence awards. He has mentored over 60 graduate students, many of whom hold leadership roles globally in academia, government, and industry.
