Aram Galstyan

Aram Galstyan serves as Research Professor at the University of Southern California's Viterbi School of Engineering, Computer Science Department, and holds dual roles as Principal Scientist and director of the Machine Intelligence and Data Science (MINDS) group at USC's Information Sciences Institute (ISI) in Marina del Rey, California.

He received his B.S. in Physics from Yerevan State University, Armenia, and earned his Ph.D. in Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics from the University of Utah. His academic foundation bridges rigorous physics training with advanced computational methodologies.

Galstyan's research operates at the critical intersection of machine learning, information theory, and statistical physics, producing both theoretical frameworks and applied solutions for real-world systems. His work demonstrates significant impact across computational social sciences for modeling human dynamics, forecasting methodologies for complex systems, and bioinformatics applications in biological data analysis. This multidisciplinary approach enables novel insights into emergent phenomena through quantitative modeling.

As principal investigator, he leads major federally funded initiatives including DARPA's Learning with Less Labels (LwLL) program and IARPA's Hybrid Forecasting Competition, with additional support from NSF, NIH, and the Army Research Office. These projects reflect his leadership in advancing AI capabilities under resource-constrained conditions and improving predictive accuracy through hybrid human-machine systems.

He directs the Machine Intelligence and Data Science group at ISI, which functions as a collaborative hub for cutting-edge AI research, integrating theoretical innovation with practical implementations across defense, healthcare, and social science domains.
