Arafat A. Razzaque is an Assistant Professor of Islamic History at the University of Toronto, affiliated with the Department of Near and Middle Eastern Civilizations. His research bridges the social, intellectual, and cultural history of the medieval Middle East, particularly during the early Abbasid period (8th–10th centuries CE).

Razzaque's scholarship explores intersections of Islamic and late antique ascetic traditions, intertextuality in Arabo-Judeo-Christian sources, and the cultural reception of texts like the Thousand and One Nights. His work interrogates moral norms, piety, and public discourse in medieval Islamicate societies.
Teaching at U of T, he offers courses on Islamicate world history, religious conversion, Sufi traditions, and caliphal governance. His publications span topics such as moral psychology in ḥadīth literature, print culture in early modern Europe's engagement with Arabic texts, and cross-cultural historiography.
