April Hiscox is a Professor of Geography at the University of South Carolina, specializing in boundary layer meteorology. She holds a Ph.D. in Natural Resources Management and Engineering from the University of Connecticut. Her research focuses on land-air interactions, aerosol dispersion, and turbulence in stable boundary layers, utilizing lidar technology. She has held academic positions at the University of South Carolina since 2010 and Louisiana State University from 2008 to 2010.
Her research interests include aerosol lidar, stable boundary layers, and microclimatology. She leads the SAVANT field campaign, studying interactions between mesoscale and microscale flows in stable boundary layers. Her work has been funded by grants from NSF, NOAA, USDA, and others, totaling over $1.2 million.
Hiscox is a recipient of the Michael J. Mungo Award for teaching excellence and the Garnet Apple Award. She has advised numerous graduate students and contributes to academic service through editorial roles and committee work. Her lab webpage details ongoing projects and collaborations.
Recent publications include studies on terrain slope effects on turbulence, stable boundary layer dynamics, and aerosol transport. She teaches courses such as Introduction to Weather and Climate and Microclimatology, integrating field campaigns and outreach into education.
