April G. Dawson is the inaugural Associate Dean of Technology and Innovation and Professor of Law at North Carolina Central University School of Law (NCCU Law). She founded the NCCU Technology Law and Policy Center (TLPC) and launched its Law and Technology Certificate Program, while overseeing a $1 million annual Intel grant to support tech-driven legal education.
- Education: B.S. in Computer Science (Bennett College, 1988); J.D. summa cum laude (Howard University School of Law, 1994).
Research Focus: Dawson specializes in the intersection of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Legal Education, exploring ethical implications of AI use in law schools, legal pedagogy, and technology’s impact on legal practice. Her work emphasizes AI governance, academic integrity, and equity in legal technology.
Publications & Contributions: Her notable works include the book Artificial Intelligence and Academic Integrity (2023), the forthcoming AI & Legal Reasoning (2025), and leadership in ABA and AALS tech-focused initiatives. She co-founded the AI and Law-Related Course Professor Group, a network of 300+ professors.
