April Fogleman

April Fogleman is an Associate Professor and Extension Specialist in the Department of Nutrition Science at North Carolina State University (NC State), affiliated with the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS). She holds a Ph.D. in Nutrition Science from NC State (2011), is a Registered Dietitian (RD), and an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). Her teaching focuses on Public Health Nutrition, Maternal and Child Nutrition, and clinical infant nutrition, with courses reaching approximately 500 students annually. She also leads extension programs for community education.

Her research emphasizes improving maternal and infant healthcare through evidence-based practices, particularly in breastfeeding support and human milk composition analysis. She has served as past-chair of the North Carolina Breastfeeding Coalition and a board member of the Human Milk Banking Association of North America. Professional memberships include the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and the International Lactation Consultant Association.

Notable achievements include the 2020 CALS Alumni Distinguished Undergraduate Professor Award and the 2018 NC State Outstanding Teacher Award. Her work bridges academic teaching, community outreach, and policy advocacy to enhance infant and maternal health outcomes.
