April Cowan

April Cowan is an Associate Professor in the Department of Occupational Therapy at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston (UTMB) School of Health Professions. She serves as Chair ad interim and Program Director for the Post-Professional Occupational Therapy Doctorate. Her clinical and scholarly work focuses on upper extremity rehabilitation, pediatric burn recovery, and evidence-based practice.

Her research explores tests and measures for hand function assessment, outcomes in burn rehabilitation, and pediatric burn interventions. Recent publications highlight innovations in hand burn management, musculoskeletal rehabilitation, and clinical assessment tools.

Dr. Cowan maintains an active clinical practice in pediatric burn rehabilitation and serves as faculty advisor for the Nu Chapter of Pi Theta Epsilon, the national occupational therapy honor society. She holds leadership roles in the American Hand Therapy Foundation and Texas Society for Hand Therapy, with memberships in AOTA, TOTA, and ASHT.
