Aoife Whiston is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Psychology, University of Limerick, with affiliations to the Ageing Research Centre and Health Research Institute. Her research focuses on depression, stress physiology, network analysis, and gerontology. She employs wearable technology, systematic reviews, and clinical trials to investigate mental health interventions and aging-related health outcomes.
Her work addresses topics such as residual symptoms in depression remission, cardiovascular stress responses, and frailty screening in emergency care. She has contributed to projects like the UL-Aid Depression Project and SOLAR randomized trial, emphasizing interdisciplinary collaboration and patient-centered approaches. Whiston’s studies often integrate network models to explore symptom dynamics and intervention efficacy.
Her recent publications span topics including post-COVID-19 rehabilitation, adaptive mHealth interventions for stroke survivors, and global pandemic mental health impacts. She is actively involved in developing core elements for frailty care pathways and evaluating public involvement in stroke research.
