Anya Golovkova is an Assistant Professor of Religion at Lake Forest College, specializing in Asian Religions, particularly Tantric traditions and Hindu goddesses. Her research focuses on ritual practices in South Asia and diasporic communities, with expertise in the cult of Tripurasundarī and Śrīvidyā. She holds a PhD from Cornell University (2017), an MSt from Oxford University (2010), and a BA from Moscow State Linguistics University (1996).
Her publications explore tantric texts, gender in religious practices, and ritual symbolism. Recent works include analyses of the Vāmakeśvarī mata and Yoginīhṛdaya texts, as well as studies on goddess iconography and liberation theology in tantric frameworks. She has presented widely at conferences such as the American Academy of Religion and the World Sanskrit Conference.
Dr. Golovkova has received numerous awards, including grants from the Mellon Foundation and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council. She is active in pedagogical innovation, focusing on inclusive teaching methods and role-playing in classrooms. She serves on the steering committee for the Tantric Studies Unit at the American Academy of Religion and contributes to Reacting Consortium initiatives on engaged learning.
