Anurag Advani is an Assistant Professor of Asian Studies at Hamilton College, focusing on historical and cultural analyses of South and Southeast Asian societies. His research bridges medical history, literature, and cultural studies, particularly examining concepts of madness and mental illness in early modern South Asia.

Advani's research explores the evolution of psychological disorder diagnoses in Indo-Persian medical manuscripts alongside cultural discussions in Mughal chronicles, Persian and Urdu poetry, jurisprudence, and visual art. He has published works on Sufi hagiographies and Mughal female physicians, with upcoming contributions to the Bloomsbury Cultural History of Madness and analyses of Urdu masnavi literature.
