Antón García-Abril is a Professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) School of Architecture and Planning since 2012. He is a European Licensed Architect and registered in Massachusetts, co-founder of Ensamble Studio (2000) and WoHo (2020). His academic work focuses on architectural innovation, prefabrication, and sustainable construction methodologies. He established the POPlab (Prototypes of Prefabrication Laboratory) at MIT in 2012. García-Abril holds a doctorate from the Polytechnic University of Madrid and has been recognized with awards such as the Spanish Academy Research Prize (1996) and the 2022 American Academy of Arts and Letters Award.
His professional practice through Ensamble Studio explores cross-functional design, balancing art and science in projects like SGAE Headquarters, Hemeroscopium House, and Ensamble Fabrica. With WoHo, he aims to make architecture more affordable through offsite technologies. His research emphasizes advancing construction techniques and redefining architectural roles, integrating development, fabrication, and invention.
