Antonio Prieto Cerdán

Antonio Prieto Cerdán is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Regional Geographic Analysis and Physical Geography at the University of Alicante, affiliated with the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters. He is a Researcher at the Interuniversity Institute of Geography and a member of the Environment, Society and Landscape (MedSPai) research group. His academic career spans over a decade of teaching geography and spatial planning.

His research focuses on green infrastructure as a spatial planning instrument, landscape analysis, and natural hazard management. He has developed methodologies for analyzing fluvial systems controlled by traditional irrigation with flood waters, and has contributed significantly to understanding landscape transformations in southeastern Spain.

Prieto Cerdán's publications demonstrate a clear trajectory toward integrating environmental concerns with spatial planning, particularly evident in his recent work on disaster risk planning and green infrastructure implementation. His research bridges academic theory with professional practice, as seen in his applied work with municipalities in the Valencian Community.

He has maintained a dual professional role as Partner and Technical Director of Cota Ambiental, SLP since 1994, providing technical assistance to municipalities in land use planning. Additionally, he served as President of the College of Geographers of Spain from 2007 to 2018.
