Antonio Maffei

Antonio Maffei is an Associate Professor in Production Systems at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, specializing in sustainable business models and digital transformation. He holds a PhD in Production Systems (KTH, 2012) and a second PhD in Pedagogy for Higher Education (University of Bologna, 2021). His roles include coordinating the Industrial Transformation through Sustainable Digitalization initiative at KTH's IRIS (Sustainable Industry and Society) and leading the XPRES production research network. He has extensive international experience, including visiting roles at global institutions.

Research interests span sustainable automation technologies, assembly systems, cyber-security, and pedagogical innovations like constructive alignment and blended learning. He has led over 10 research projects and published 60+ scientific works. Awards include recognition as a Future Leader for Strategic Educational Development at KTH (2022–present). He is affiliated with the Swedish Production Academy and Production 2030 network.

Teaching focuses on automation, assembly technology, and scientific methodology in production engineering. Courses include Automation Technology, Assembly Technology, and Scientific Methodology for Engineers. His work bridges manufacturing innovation with educational strategies, emphasizing digitalization’s societal impact.

Key collaborations include XPRES, IRIS, and European projects like BLISS and TET (Erasmus+). He advocates for Industry 4.0 integration in both industry and academia, addressing sustainability and skill development challenges.
