Antonio Jaime Azuara is a Postdoctoral researcher at Aalborg University's Faculty of Engineering and Science, working in the Thermal Engineering department. His research focuses on chemical recycling technologies for plastics, particularly polyethylene terephthalate (PET), using hydrothermal processing methods under subcritical water conditions.
Dr. Azuara's research interests include:
- Chemical recycling of plastics
- Hydrothermal processing under subcritical water conditions
- Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) depolymerization and recycling
- Circular economy approaches for plastic waste
- Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) analysis of chemical pathways
- Materials characterization for recycling processes
His recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on developing sustainable methods for plastic recycling, with particular emphasis on neutral hydrothermal processing of PET. His work bridges fundamental chemical analysis with practical engineering applications for transitioning to continuous flow systems in chemical recycling. He has published multiple peer-reviewed articles in high-impact journals including Chemical Engineering Journal, Polymer Degradation and Stability, and Green Chemistry, with several papers receiving significant citations (his 2023 Green Chemistry paper has 18 Scopus citations).
Dr. Azuara recently completed a PhD project (2020-2024) as Principal Investigator on 'HYDROTHERMAL PROCESSING OF SOLID PLASTIC WASTE: A CHEMICAL RECYCLING TECHNOLOGY TO PROMOTE CIRCULAR ECONOMY FOR PLASTICS' supervised by T. H. Pedersen.
