Antonio Ignacio Hernández Cordero

Antonio Ignacio Hernández Cordero is a Professor in the Department of Geography at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. He is a member of GIR IOCAG (Geography, Environment and Geographic Information Technologies) research group and affiliated with the IU of Oceanography and Global Change.

His research focuses on Coastal Geography, Environmental Management, and Geographic Information Systems with specialization in Beach-Dune Systems of the Canary Islands. His work examines socio-environmental conflicts, climate change impacts, and sustainable development approaches for coastal ecosystems in island environments. His methodology frequently incorporates Geographic Information Technologies for environmental analysis and monitoring.

His current work includes the 'Detailed Study of Socio-Environmental Conflicts for the Sustainable Development of Beach-Dune Systems in the Canary Islands' (2022-2025) and 'Arid beach-dune systems in the face of climate change' (2022).

He has supervised undergraduate theses including 'Biogeographic characterization of the flora of the gardens of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria' (2024) and 'Effects on vegetation of the Great Forest Fire of Gran Canaria in 2019' (2022), demonstrating his commitment to student development and practical geographical research.
