Antonio Costa is a Senior Researcher at the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), Sezione di Bologna, Italy, where he has been employed since 2007. He served as Director of the Bologna section from 2019 to 2022 and has held roles such as Tenured Researcher (2013–2018) and Visiting Researcher at Universidad de Nariño (2017, 2018) and University of Tokyo (2015).
Education: He earned a PhD from the University of Bologna in 2004, with part of his doctoral research conducted at The Open University, UK, under an EU Research Training Network fellowship.
Research Interests: Primarily focused on volcanology, geophysics, and natural hazards, Costa's work spans geostatistics, fluid mechanics, and rock mechanics. His research aims to understand eruption dynamics and tephra hazards.

Labs & Teams: He contributed to the Deep Carbon Observatory (DCO) Task Force (2016–2018) and served as Associate Editor for journals like Nature Scientific Reports and Frontiers in Earth Science.
