Antonio Cardoso Costa

Antonio Cardoso Costa is a Professor at the Department of Informatics Engineering at Instituto Superior de Engenharia do Porto (ISEP). He has held leadership roles including Head of the Informatics Engineering Degree (2002–2008), Vice-President of ISEP's Scientific Council (2008–2009), and currently serves as Accreditation/Certification Coordinator for ISEP's degree programs. He is also an ABET Program Evaluator in Information Technology and a CDIO Mentor since 2007.

• Educational Background: Graduated in 1985, completed a PhD (1996–1999) focusing on 3D lighting design methodologies under physical constraints.

Research interests span computer graphics hardware/software development, geographic information systems (pre-internet era), and lighting design in 3D environments. His work includes contributions to early graphics processors (e.g., Texas Instruments TMS340XX) and European Esprit Program projects.

Awards: Received a 1990 creativity award for co-developing a high-quality black/white graphics board. Recognized as an ACM Senior Member since 2011.

Grants/Projects: Led ISEP's participation in an Esprit Program GIS project (1991–1995) with Siemens and Bull. His PhD research produced foundational papers on lighting constraints in 3D spaces.

Labs/Teams: Former researcher at INESC-Norte and INESC-Porto, collaborating on R&D in engineering and computer systems.
