Antonio Bicchi

Antonio Bicchi is Professor of Robotics at the University of Pisa and Senior Scientist at the Italian Institute of Technology. He leads the SoftRobotics Lab and Robotics Group at the Research Center 'E. Piaggio', with adjunct appointment at Arizona State University. As Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Robotics Research, he has shaped academic discourse in robotics.

His research focuses on human-centered robotics, including:

• Soft synergy-based artificial hands
• Variable impedance actuators
• Physical human-robot interaction safety
• Haptic feedback systems

Major projects include ERC-funded SoftHands prosthesis and Natural Bionics spinal interface technology. He coordinates the JOiiNT Lab for industry-academia tech transfer.
