Dr. Antonio Allegretti is a Lecturer in Human Geography at Lancaster Environment Centre, Lancaster University. He specializes in development studies with a focus on food systems, gender dynamics, and climate resilience in Africa. His research examines grassroots entrepreneurship among women in fisheries, local food governance practices, and the intersection of ethnicity, religion, and economic systems.
Allegretti’s work spans Sub-Saharan Africa, particularly Tanzania and Kenya, addressing issues like small-scale fisheries management, water sector reform, and rural livelihoods. He currently leads the project Truly Global: Reterritorialising the Italian 'borgo' in Southern Italy, exploring cultural spatial dynamics. He supervises one PhD student, Ana Smith.
His recent publications analyze food security frameworks, post-harvest fisheries practices, and climate-resilient planning. He has contributed to interdisciplinary discussions on pandemics' socio-cultural impacts and the role of ethnic institutions in economic systems.
