Antonia Vlachou is an Adjunct Professor at the School of Sciences, specializing in Systems Biology of Cancer. She holds a PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology from Baylor College of Medicine (1997) and a BS in Biology from the University of Athens (1991). Her current role as Research Scientist (Professor Level) at the Biomedical Research Foundation, Academy of Athens (since 2003) includes co-directing the Proteomics department. She has held academic positions including Reader/Associate Professor at Plymouth University (2013–2015) and Research Assistant Professor at Eastern VA Medical School (2001–2003).
Her research focuses on proteomics, cancer biomarkers, bladder cancer, and chronic kidney disease. Key projects include the Caresyan and TransBioBC initiatives, and she co-edited books on Clinical Proteomics and Systems Biology applications. She serves on editorial boards for Scientific Reports and PLOS One, and chairs sessions at major conferences like the European Association of Urology.
She has organized annual meetings for the iMODE-CKD project and COST Action EuroKUP. Professional recognition includes roles as an external expert for the European Medicine Agency and grant reviewer for institutions like Cancer Research UK. Her teaching credentials include a Post Graduate Certificate in Higher Education (2016) from Plymouth University.
