Anton Lucas is an academic affiliated with Flinders University, where he has taught Indonesian and related subjects since 1981. His career includes postdoctoral research at the University of Auckland (1980-1981) and collaborations at Hasanuddin University (1984-1985) and Gadjah Mada University (1990-1992). He served as Director of the Flinders Asia Centre (2004-2009) and led three ARC-funded projects in Indonesia focused on land use, environmental governance, and social capital.

Professional engagements include a leadership role as Head of the Department of Asian Studies (2002-2003), membership in the national Reference Group of ACICIS (2004–present), and board roles with IRIP (publisher of *Inside Indonesia*) and the Indonesian Teachers' Association of SA (INTAN, 2004-2008).
