Anthony de Buys Roessingh is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Biology and Medicine, University of Lausanne (UNIL), appointed on August 1, 2024. He is affiliated with the Child and Adolescent Surgery Department at the Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV), where he serves as a senior physician and leads key clinical services in pediatric plastic surgery, including burns, facial clefts, and esophageal replacements. He is the director of the multidisciplinary cleft consultation and coordinator of the CHUV burn center.
His research focuses on regenerative medicine, particularly the use of fetal skin and muscle cells to develop biological dressings for treating burns and deep wounds in children. A clinical trial based on this research is set to begin in spring 2025. He is also involved in three ongoing collaborative studies with the University of Zurich on autologous cultured cells for burn victims and is helping establish a national follow-up registry for severe burn patients in Switzerland.
Professionally, he is president of the French-speaking Association of Facial Clefts (AFFF) and the Swiss Society of Pediatric Surgery (SSCP), and serves on the committees of the French Society of Pediatric Surgery (SFCP) and the French Society of Pediatric Plastic Surgery (SFCPP). He has over twenty years of humanitarian surgical work in West Africa (Benin and Togo), having operated on 70 children locally and consulted over 300 cases, under the umbrella of the African Children's Surgery Foundation, which he chairs.
