Professor Anthony Zwi is a globally recognized academic in Global Health and Development at the School of Social Sciences, UNSW. With a medical degree and PhD from the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa, and an MSc in epidemiology from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, his career spans academic leadership, policy analysis, and humanitarian work. He previously led the School of Public Health and Community Medicine at UNSW and transitioned to deepen his focus on development policy, gender-based violence, and human rights. His research emphasizes equity, social justice, and evidence-based approaches to health and development challenges, particularly in crises and post-disaster contexts. He co-leads initiatives like the Gaawaadhi Gadudha study on Aboriginal health and advises organizations such as The Lancet and the Aminata Maternal Foundation. Teaching includes courses on global development, health policy, and humanitarian action. Active in editorial roles and advocacy, Zwi’s work bridges academic rigor with real-world impact through policy engagement and community collaboration.
