Anthony J. Kim is a tenured Professor in the Department of Neurosurgery and Pharmacology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He directs the Nanotherapeutics Laboratory and co-directs the Translational Therapeutics Research Group (TTRG), leading interdisciplinary research in nanomedicine for brain and breast cancers. His education includes a Ph.D. in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and postdoctoral training at Johns Hopkins.
Research focuses on overcoming biological barriers using engineered nanoparticles, with emphasis on glioblastoma and triple-negative breast cancer. His work integrates biophysical tools and DART nanoparticles to enhance drug delivery and therapeutic efficacy.
Articles (2013–2025) demonstrate recurring themes: targeted nanotherapeutics, Fn14 receptor exploitation, and innovations in ultrasound-enhanced drug delivery. Key journals include ACS Nano, Science Advances, and Biomaterials.
Honors & Grants:
- ATIP Award (2024), VA Merit Award (2022), NIH MERIT R37 (2018)
- Active grants: NIH R01 CA269995 (MPI), VA I01 BX005770 (PI), NIH R37 CA218617 (PI)
He teaches clinical bioengineering courses at the University of Maryland Clark School of Engineering and mentors through UMGCCC programs.
