Anthony G Cokes

Anthony G. Cokes is a Professor of Modern Culture and Media at Brown University, where he also serves as Interim Chair of the department. His work bridges media production, critical theory, and sound studies, focusing on political and cultural critique through post-conceptual practices.

• Education: MFA (1985) from Virginia Commonwealth University, BA (1979) from Goddard College

Research centers on media production, multimedia installation, and sound-image relations, with emphasis on recontextualizing popular culture and political rhetoric. His Pop Manifestos and Evil series blend text, sound, and appropriated materials to interrogate capitalism, war, and identity.

Recent scientific awards include the MacArthur Foundation Grant (2024-2029) and Rockefeller Foundation support. He has received multiple grants from Brown University (OVPR, Faculty Development Fund) and national institutions (NEA, Creative Capital Foundation).
