Anthony Didlake Jr. is an Associate Professor of Meteorology in the Department of Meteorology and Atmospheric Science at Penn State University (College of Earth and Mineral Sciences). His research focuses on tropical cyclone dynamics, radar meteorology, and mesoscale processes.
- Education: Ph.D. and M.S. in Atmospheric Sciences (University of Washington); B.S. in Geology and Geophysics (Yale University)
Research interests include:
- 3D wind and precipitation structures in tropical cyclones using airborne/land-based/spaceborne radar
- Mesoscale precipitation processes and Doppler retrieval techniques
- Environmental interactions with hurricane intensity/structure
Recent research trends show expertise in:
- Analyzing eyewall replacement cycles and asymmetries
- Examining convective updrafts in rainbands
- Developing ice crystal trajectory growth models for microphysical analysis
- Investigating boundary layer dynamics during secondary eyewall formation
Scientific awards include the Donald C. Shirey Early Career Development Professorship.
Advising activities:
