Anthony Colantuono is a Professor in the Department of Art History and Archaeology at the University of Maryland, specializing in art from seventeenth-century Italy, France, and Spain. His research intersects critical theory, early modern studies, gender, and visual culture, with a focus on the interplay between literary and pictorial theories in visual rhetoric.

Research Interests: His work examines the interpretation of early modern art through critical theory lenses, including diplomatic imagery, gender symbolism, and pedagogical allegories. He has explored connections between Baroque painting and modern film, as well as medieval and early modern iconographical practices.

Current Projects: Editor of Orfeo Boselli's 17th-century sculpture treatise, a study of Baroque painting/film parallels, and research on medieval/early modern iconographical advisors.
