Anthony Carpi is a Professor of Environmental Chemistry and Dean of Research at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, CUNY. He specializes in environmental mercury chemistry and STEM education equity. His work bridges scientific research with educational initiatives to support underrepresented students in STEM fields.

His research focuses on mercury’s environmental fate, including soil emissions and deforestation impacts. He secured over $22M in grants from NSF, DOE, and others. His mentorship has guided over 60 students, with 26 advancing to PhD programs.
Scientific Contributions: His work on mercury chemistry includes EPA and Oak Ridge National Lab fellowships, and a Fulbright in Brazil. Recent articles emphasize MSI roles in STEM workforce strengthening and underrepresented student success.
As Dean of Research, he oversaw doubling of research grants and tripling of scholarly output at John Jay. He advocates for MSIs as critical STEM talent pipelines and integrates environmental science with social justice themes in teaching.
