Anthony Barnhart is an Associate Professor of Psychological Science at Carthage College. He holds a Ph.D. in Cognitive Science from Arizona State University and has shifted his research focus to the interface of science and magic since 2010. His work explores how magicians' intuitions align with scientific models of attention and perception, highlighted in venues like Science News For Kids and CBC’s The Nature of Things. A part-time professional magician with over 30 years of experience, he has won four national magic competitions and contributed to the book Sleights of Mind. His research also extends to broader topics like personality traits in magicians and experimental methodologies in visual attention.
Education: Ph.D. in Cognitive Science from Arizona State University. Research interests include the psychology of magic, attention mechanisms, and handwritten word perception. Awards include recognition for his contributions to magic and academic work. His lab and teaching initiatives, such as The Skeptical Classroom, integrate magic with educational practices.
